Well this week was mostly just finishing everything up and
getting ready to leave. I've given away pretty much all of my
stuff. I bought a new shirt to wear home and gave away all of my other
shirts and pants and stuff. We've had amazing success with sister Z who came to church again. She's actually a fashion designer and she said
she's going to make me a jacket which I have seen and it's super dope.
She's going to be baptized really soon. She came to church again and
brought her sister in law C who is also awesome and will definitely get
baptized as well. We've had some powerful experiences with them and they
are totally on board. There's a ton going on in our area right now and
since I'm leaving Elder Dos Santos is going to go to the other area for the
next 2 weeks until he gets a new companion. That's going to be really
hard for our ward because we have a ton of people we need to keep track of. I'm
sure he'll sort it out though. <o:p></o:p></div>

It feels really weird to come to the end of my
mission. I want to say to you and to Dad thank you so much for raising me
to have a testimony of the gospel and to go on the mission. I know that I
have made more progress and improvement during these 2 years than any other
time of my life and that the decision to serve a mission was the best decision
that I (n)ever made. I'm so glad to know that the church is true and that
the Book of Mormon is true and to be able to build the rest of my life on the
foundation of the Savior Jesus Christ. <o:p></o:p></div>

To Mom:</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
This week was the penultimate week of my mission. Now
I'm going into the final week. It's crazy to think that next Monday I'll
be sending my last email as a missionary. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
We were in Cape Town for a lot of this week. It was a
nice MLC but pretty boring for me. Nothing that we talked about will
affect me at all. I tried to give my input on a few things. There's
a lot of new missionaries coming in which means by the end of this next
transfer exactly 1/3 of the mission will be in their first 3 transfers.
That means the mission is going to need a ton of trainers. It was weird
because there were only like 4 or 5 missionaries in the entire MLC that had
even trained once. We spent a lot of time talking about what trainers
must do to help their new missionaries and stuff so that was one area where I
participated and felt like it was good for me to be there. Besides that I
kind of chilled because everything on the agenda wasn't for me. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Thursday morning was my final interview with President
Lebethoa. It was really nice. It was almost more of a training than
an interview. What I really liked about it was that it was really
positive. I thought President Lebethoa was going to ask me about all my
fears on returning home and then counsel me about each of them. He actually
didn't ask me about fears at all. He just asked me about my goals and
then gave me some perspective and direction about how to plan for the next
stages of my life. It kind of took for granted that anything I might be
afraid of would be alright and it was very faith promoting. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The missionary work is going well and we have a lot to do so
I'm able to stay really busy and focused and not think about home. This
is my last week so I hope it will be the best week of my mission.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I need to buy a shirt, a belt, and pay a traffic fine for
300 rands so I'm going to take some money out of my savings account.
After that I have no more expenses so that's exciting to me. When I get
home I'm going to need some things though. I need 2 pairs of shoes. I need a new pair of indoor soccer shoes (the
ones I brought on mission served me very well but are very much finished.
They actually ripped completely in half and I had to duct tape them and then
the duct tape ripped again and so I've thrown them away.) I also need a
pair of running shoes. I think besides that I should have everything I'm
going to need for a while. I'm excited to have all my purchases taken
care of and ready to start saving and building up self reliance. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I'm really excited to play soccer as well. Pray for me
that I'll be able to get in shape so that I can make the Utah State team. <o:p></o:p></div>

I'm sorry to report that for the second week in a row I
probably won't have any pictures to send. I've been doing better and I've
really been trying! but this week we've got a lot going on so I know next
week there will be lots of pictures<o:p></o:p></div>
<br /><br />
To Mom:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
This week was great. Getting all those pictures and
hearing about all my friends getting home from their missions was really
weird. So I've been trying not to think about that all week hahaha.
Weird that everyone is home now. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
We had a good week though. We have found a lot of new
investigators and had some great success. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
This week was my last zone conference. There are some
big changes from the missionary department. There's a new planner coming
soon and a new PMG that has already been released. some of the
interesting things: The church will no longer use the word
"investigator" We will now be referring to people learning
about the church as "people being taught" I think that's an
obvious change that should have happened a long time ago. But it's good
it doesn't put people inside a weird box that they don't want to be in when
they come to the church for the first time and they aren't members. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Also we have finally stopped reporting on all of the extra
stats. The missionary department told us to only report on the 4 key
indicators last year in January, but it's taken a really long time to actually
take effect. Officially though, the key indicators are now done except
the 4 and it's really liberating. We don't have to make goals for all
sorts of stuff that would just give us anxiety and not help us fulfill our purpose.
That's going to be big for the missionary work in our mission going
forward. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
There was a lot of changes besides those 2 but they just
have to do with missionary things so I'll spare you the details. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
It was a nice zone conference, but it was weird knowing that
none of that will even have any effect on my mission at all. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
At the end I got the chance to bear my testimony. It
was a lot more emotional than I thought. (I didn't cry) I knew I wouldn't
cry but it was still didn't seem real to give my testimony for the last time
with the elders<span style="background: white; font-size: 12.0pt;"> and I
really felt the spirit of it very strongly. </span> It was cool though
when I shared my testimony one of the Greenies in our zone cried :) that really
made me smile haha. And Elder Aydelotte shared his testimony with
me. He's a guy I really love and respect so that was cool <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I also had an interview with President which I thought was
going to be my final interview. It ended up being just a basic 15 minute
interview that we have every transfer, but he scheduled with me for my final
interview. That will be this Thursday and he said it will be an hour and
a half interview. I'm really excited about that. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I will have the interview with him this week because we're
going to be in Cape Town again. We leave tomorrow morning and get back
Thursday as usual. That should be fun and I'll see a few new of my old
buddies because there's been a transfer since last time we went. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
When we get back from Cape Town we're going to eat. I
already have a Dinner Appointment scheduled every day until I leave haha<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Queenstown has been an amazing area.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
We were expecting a lot of investigators this Sunday.
We were disappointed by a few of them, but it was ok because the sister I
mentioned last week, sister Z, came to church for the first time today.
She absolutely loved it, and all the members are really excited about
her. She received a lot of love and support from the members. She's
young and smart and married and she has a car, so she will help the ward a
lot. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
There was also a lot of member missionary work
happening. There were a lot of people who brought their friends to church
who we didn't even know. Probably 6 or 7 different members did
that. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Overall there's a lot of great things happening and me and
Elder Dos Santos are really excited about the ward!<o:p></o:p></div>

We started teaching a really nice investigator named
Z. We taught her on Tuesday the restoration and then we came back on
Thursday to teach her again and we asked her what she remembered and she said
"I remember that Joseph Smith was called to bring back the true church
that everyone is supposed to go to because all the other churches are wrong and
God showed him the Book of Mormon to prove to everyone that he's a true prophet"
I thought that was pretty good for one lesson hahaha! She's awesome and
she'll get baptized for sure. Her husband is a business man and is gone all the
time and she has 4 children. Hopefully we'll start with her and work our
way to the rest of the family. We're teaching her sister, N as
well, and I'm sure she'll get baptized too. We're trying to work on
N's husband right now. If both of those families get baptized
that would be so amazing.<o:p></o:p></div>

It's transfer week this week. We got a new senior
couple this week from Idaho called the Blasers. They're really nice and

There's not much to say other than that we're eating really
well. On Friday we even got invited for breakfast by an

at least once a week often twice. She invited us for breakfast where we
ate this thing called Ndyandya which is kind of a cross between a pumpkin and a
watermelon. It was kind of weird but it was alright. Then we went
there at night to talk to L her son and she invited us in and gave us
dinner. I think that's the first time in 2 years I ate breakfast and

I'm really sorry about the water heater. You're lucky you could just go to Sabra's house. In my first area we had a gas guyser so it would just run out about every 5 days and our landlord was terrible at filling it up so we ended up taking cold showers like 2 days a week it was super annoying. It's not as annoying as here in Queenstown though. It's so annoying they have had terrible city management and now they can't afford the electricity anymore so they turn off the electricity for the entire city every day usually from 8-9 or so in the morning and then from 6-7 every night. It's really frustrating but it's fine<o:p></o:p></div>
<span style="font-family: "calibri" , sans-serif; font-size: 11pt;">The movie with the Rock sounds ridiculous. It's funny how many movies the Rock is in. There's a store called Musica that's all over South Africa and it usually has the latest releases so every now and then on P Day I go there to see what movies have come out and the Rock is in everything it's just crazy. </span><br />

This week was pretty dull. Obviously going to Cape
Town was cool and those 3 days were nice, but it really slows things down in
our actual area when we've had to go to Cape Town. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Cape Town was sweet though. We had another MLC which
was just mostly basic stuff and nothing major was discussed or anything.
It was really awesome though because after the MLC on Wednesday I went
proselyting with Elder Khoza in Langa. It was good to be with Elder Khoza
again for a few hours and it was really weird to be in Langa again. We
went to the Mbaki's for a minute and they were so excited to see me it was
pretty awesome. Definitely they were my favorite family from serving in
that ward and it was just really surreal to sit with them for a bit and sister
Mbaki made us food that was really good. After they called Brother
Guellor, I don't know if you remember him but the 2 of us were super tight and
we have emailed since I left. He was so stoked to see me he even cried
hahaha. But I love that guy so much. It was really awesome to see
him. I tried to see Siphokazi my recent convert but she wasn't
home. Shame. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Otherwise it was nice to be in Cape Town but not much else
happened here. The Bells are going home so they were really
emotional. <o:p></o:p></div>

Me
and my companion played tons of street soccer this week. Everyone has a 3
week break from school right now so the kids are playing like crazy in the
street. We even look for older kids sometimes and we just challenge them
and we have our own ball so it works out nicely. One game was really
sweet. We found a bunch of kids who wanted to play and so we set up the
field and started playing and tons of people came to watch and all the
neighbors came out of their houses to watch and we had so many fans. We
played 2 goals for a game and then a new team would come on. We played
about 6 games and we won them all 2-0 except one of them was 2-1. The
great thing was that the other teams were always pretty good so they always
thought they were going to win and then they'd be so disappointed when we
won. And every time we scored all the kids and the fans would go
nuts. It got to the last game and we went up 1-0 early and then they
started going really really hard because they wanted to win. then we
played like that for about 5 minutes and then I got the ball near the goal and
this kid was going really hard and he came for the ball and he went all in and
I totally destroyed him and scored and all the fans went nuts hahahahaha.
It was a lot of fun. But me and my companion are destroying everyone
right now and of course we're undefeated and I think undefeatable. After
the games we gathered everyone together and had a nice prayer. In all our
games we agreed with the other teams that if we won they would come to church
and if they won we would bring them cookies. It was cool because
everytime they were so confident and then we started scoring and all their
buddies watching the games would say "niya caweni!" you're going to
church hahaha. None of them came to church though, but I hope their
conscience haunts them knowing that they totally flaked and they should have
come and maybe another week they will come. <o:p></o:p></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
It's been a slow week for us here. On Saturday we had
a birthday party for Mama Ngondo who turned 100. I love birthday parties
here because they're more like sacrament meetings. We open with a hymn
and a prayer and then have a spiritual thought. Then someone from the
stake president is invited to come and give the sermon. Then some
speeches and we close with a hymn and a prayer. That's what happened on
Saturday but it's not just that one. That pattern of birthday parties has
happened 3 times since I got to Queenstown haha I think it's super funny.
But the party was nice but it took almost the whole day and we couldn't leave
because we were like the guests of honor or something like that so we ended up
staying there until 5:30. It was supposed to start at 12 but when we got
there at 12 they told us to come back at half 1 and when we got back at half 1
it was about to start so we stayed, and it didn't even start for a whole hour
after that. So it went from half 2 to half 5. African time. Haha
but we were able to meet a lot of people there so it was alright.<o:p></o:p></div>

Sacrament meeting was interesting. We had the
confirmation of Brother M which was good and we had 2 other investigators
come for the first time which we were excited about. Something that
really makes me laugh and I can't remember if I told you this already, but at
least one of the speakers every Sunday just stands up and reads a talk from a
general authority and then sits down. Sometimes all 3. Even the
stake speakers sometimes come and just read a talk from conference. It's
really weird and it makes me laugh. This past week though we had fast and
testimony meeting so it was great. <o:p></o:p></div>

have to say I've been missing you too. The World Cup has been on
everywhere and it's hard to dodge it or not feel trunky when I see it.
But it's not too bad. I'm managing it ok. We went to teach Z the other day and the very end of the Brazil game was on and I saw the score I
think it was 1-0 at that time or 2-0 and Brazil had basically already won the
game and then I saw Neymar flick the ball over the defenders head. It
made me so mad. Man I hate that guy what an idiot. How can he do
something stupid like that. What a joke. I hope Brazil lose next
game and don't qualify. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">It's
been funny to be with my companion though for the world cup. He always
says funny stuff about soccer and then says "It's not because I'm
Brazilian it's just because that's really what I think." And then if
we're talking to anyone else about it they always just agree with him because
they don't know anything and he's Brazilian. For example: Who's the best
player of all time. Me: It's Messi. My companion: It's
Ronaldinho. Everyone else: Yeah definitely Ronaldinho. Hahaha
what the heck. Nobody ever says Ronaldinho but they just parrot whatever
he says haha. Also he tries to convince me that the teams in Brazil are better
than any of the teams in Europe because they win the club world cup.
Hahaha. For the most part what
he says is good and correct and he's a really good player himself. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">We
played with the ward on Saturday as well. It's frustrating to play with
South Africans though because they don't really care about scoring or
winning. Honestly it's not their motive. They always make the field
as big as possible and the goal as small as possible to eliminate as much
scoring as possible. Then the point of the game becomes who has the
quickest and fanciest dribble. And it's not even like the dribble past
you either. They never try to dribble past anyone ever. They just
pull the ball back and forth and wait for you to try and steal it and then they
just pull it back and pull it back until they get to their own end line and
then they pass it away. And then they turn to you and laugh as if they
just smoked you. It doesn't make any sense. On Saturday we played
the young men and we beat them 4-0. It was me and my companion and 5 12
year olds against all the 17 year olds. We were up 4-0 and they still
took the ball in their own half and just stood on it waiting for us to come and
steal it. It confused me so bad because we were winning 4-0. And
yet they don't even care. They have no desire to win or score. They
just want you to go and steal it so they can try and do some quick dribbles and
keep you from stealing the ball. And then after the game, we just beat
them 4-0 scoring 4 times on a goal that was about 2 feet wide on a 7 v 7 pitch,
and they don't even think they lost because they had done all the cool
dribbling they wanted to do. Hahaha it's always fun to play with them but
it's no wonder why South Africa isn't very good. Even the professional
teams play exactly the same way. And all the South Africans I know are
terrible at shooting because they don't like shooting or scoring. But to
be fair just about every South African I have ever met that grew up in the
township is a pretty good dribbler and has good ball control. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

The baptism was great. It was just brother Z who got baptized. He's great. I've loved teaching him and
also I love the food his wife makes for us every time we come. He's come
a long way since we've been teaching him and I'm really excited to see him
going forward. Him and his wife have committed to prepare for temple
sealing next year. That will be super awesome. After the baptism we
went to his house to give him his new member kit and he was so happy. He
just kept saying thank you so much for everything I feel so amazing I feel like
a new person. He's an awesome guy. The baptismal service was also
really nice. The Elders Quorum President gave a talk which was really
nice. and Sister Mndende gave a talk which was really
touching. </div>

Zone Conference was cool. Before our interviews on

that we were teaching and things we could do to strengthen them. <o:p></o:p></div>

Zone Conference was nice though. President trained about a
lot of stuff that we already talked about during MLC last week so that was kind
of too bad, but he gave a really great inspiring training about how to pass new
converts over to the ward, that is going to help me a lot. It was Elder
Burns last Zone Conference so he's going home. I'm going to miss him he's
one of my best friends on mission. But he's going to Utah State so I'm
only going to miss him for like a month haha<o:p></o:p></div>

people and having loads of success this past week. It's an exciting time
to work here in this ward because it's going to split really soon. Also
President Lebethoa is going to be taking lots of cars, but not ours, and he's
instructed us to walk as much as possible with the Book of Mormon in our
hands. It's been great and yielded a lot of fruit. <o:p></o:p></div>

finished the Book of Mormon last week. I was thinking about how I used to
read the Book of Mormon when I was 8 and I always used to get so excited for you
to come home from work so I could tell you that I finished one of the books in
the Book of Mormon. Anyway I love you Dad. happy fathers day. <o:p></o:p></div>

To Mom:<br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
This week was an interesting week. First of all
nothing happened in our area because we were in Cape Town the whole week.
It kind of wrecked things here but it was really fun. The way we've done
MLC in the past is that the elders in the Eastern Cape would skype in and the
ones in Cape Town would meet together. But that was always just terrible
and frustrating and it didn't really work very well at all. So now
President has decided that every MLC all the zone leaders in the mission will
meet together. Which means the next one will be on July 2nd which is in 2
weeks now! Crazy. It did bring a good sense of unity to all of us
and it also made the discussion way better and more open. It was a lot
better for sure<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
It was great to see some of my friends too that I haven't
seen. Daniel Clark was there so we got to hang out for a while. And
Elder Lillback hahahaha I miss that guy so much. He was making all of us
laugh the whole time. It was pretty cool. Including Elder Ondracek
from the MTC 7 of my 12 companions were there. I think next time I'll
take a picture with all of them. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
We were all hyped for the MLC because the APs kept sending
little texts hinting at big things for example "don't freak out when you
see the agenda for the MLC..." and things like that. But it turned
out to be nothing special at all. There was nothing really discussed that
was very big or that we didn't already know. Of course we talked a lot
about he issue of cars in the mission and President did reveal that the mission
will be losing many if not most of its cars between July 1 and July 17.
So we're going to have to be prepared to walk. I have a feeling I'll be
walking for my last 4 weeks. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Besides that President introduced a new pass-along card that
we're going to be using that has a question of the soul or a verse from the
Book of Mormon, and then it directs the person to <a href="http://mormon.org/">mormon.org</a>.
He wants us to put them in mailboxes to reach the people who have big gates and
who don't like it when we tract. It's actually a really inspired idea and
I think it's going to bless our mission a lot. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
After that me and my companion exchanged with the
assistants, one of whom is my son, Elder Reedy. So I went with Elder
Reedy although we only had about 2 hours after everything was said and done, to
do misionary work. But it was nice to be with him and to chat about a lot
of things. I've seen him a lot since we left each other all the way back
in MD, but I've never actually got to just be together with him doing
missionary work and stuff so I was happy for that chance. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The plane was awesome. It seems like the Lord always
puts people in our path on the plane who are interested. All 6 of us sat
next to different people and all of use were chatting and having cool
experiences. On the flight to Cape Town I was sitting there while people
were coming onto to plane when the guy in front of me turned around in his seat
and asked me what all of us missionaries were doing. I thought, well that
was easy! Then I gave him the Book of Mormon and told him we were teaching
about it, and then he read it for the rest of the flight. It was cool he
was getting excited about it and taking pictures of a lot of the pages and
stuff. I even saw his chats on whatsapp and he was sending the picture of
the Book of Mormon. After the flight we talked for a bit and I gave his contacts
to the East London Elders so I'm sure they'll be teaching him for a
while. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
On the flight back some business guy bought chips and candy
bars for all of us elders hahaha I don't even know why he didn't even say
anything. We just told him about <a href="http://mormon.org/">mormon.org</a>
and that was it. But maybe he'll go there and then we'll meet up with him
later. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Fathers day was sweet. Ward 1 and Ward 2 met together so it
was a really great service. The attendance was 200 which was the most I
think I've seen since I've been in South Africa. And the singing was
really awesome. After church we all met in the gym and everyone feasted
even the people who aren't fathers. So that was really nice. <o:p></o:p></div>

I'm going to be flying to Cape Town tomorrow and flying back
on Thursday. Apparently it's going to be some huge stuff going to be
discussed. I am really excited about that. Then we're going to fly
to Cape Town again for another MLC that will take 3 days in 3 weeks time.
There must be some crazy stuff happening if they're flying all the zone leaders
in the mission to Cape Town twice in 3 weeks. I'll let you know the
details next week but for sure we're going to discuss losing all or most of the
cars in the mission. <o:p></o:p></div>

I have played soccer with Elder Dos Santos before in East
London we played a lot of times. But since he's got here we haven't
gotten the chance. He's actually really good at basketball. He thought he
was going to be in the NBA when he was younger he's like super good and
definitely the best basketball player in the mission. But he's also
really good at soccer. We're going to start playing with the wards though
which I'm excited about <o:p></o:p></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
This week was transfers so we had a bit of news on our
end. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
On Saturday the Mthatha elders had a baptismal interview
that they wanted us to do so we drove out to Mthatha Saturday afternoon.
It's a nice drive so it's always fun to drive down there. On the way a
dog ran out from the side of the road and headed straight for the car but I was
going to fast to do anything about it and on the other side of the road a semi
truck was coming toward us so there was nothing I could do I just screamed
"NOOOO!" and then God protected us because somehow by sheer
luck the dog paused in the road right in the middle of us and the oncoming
truck and didn't die. I have no idea how we didn't hit it I was pretty
scared. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
But we got to Mthatha and did the interview and afterwards
we went to an appointment with those elders at a school, but the appointment
fell through so we decided to drop in to a church that was going on next
door. It was so hilarious. They started by screaming everyone at
once for about 20 minutes and then they sat down and the lady pastor started
preaching. Hahaha she started by reading 2 Kings 5:1. Read that
verse haha. So she read it and then she spent the next 20 minutes just
screaming over and over variations of "Naaman was a good man." or
"Naaman was an honorable man" "Naaman was a
warrior" Hahaha she didn't get to any point at all she literally
just said over and over about how Naaman was a good man and then randomly out
of nowhere she just completely switched gears and she just screamed "Flee
Fornication and glory to Jesus" And she like jumped up and down and
flexed her body and the crowd went wild they couldn't handle it like 10 people
jumped up and just yelled "Glory to Jesus!" And then one lady
prayed in tongues for like 10 minutes hahahaha it was just so much apostasy in
one room I felt so bad for the people who were enslaved by it. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Then we got our transfer news later that night while we were
sleeping over at Mthatha. My companion is leaving me to go to Cape Town. And my
new companion is Elder Dos Santos from Brazil. I actually predicted it so
I wasn't surprised when he came to be my companion. He's awesome.
He's one of those guys that's just on another level so I'm gonna really enjoy
being with him. Yeah I'm excited about that</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">

<div class="MsoNormal">

Elder Reynolds is going to Cape Town to be with Elder Bozer
and Elder Ivins (still haven't seen him) and the President gave them a special
assignment to "test something that will soon come to the whole
mission" We think they're getting smart phones or tablets and losing
their car. But next week there's going to be a big MLC to train all the
Zone Leaders about these "big changes" so me and Elder Dos Santos
will be flying to Cape Town for 3 days to attend that. I'm pretty excited it's
going to be way cool.<o:p></o:p></div>

I just got it from the mission office about 5
minutes ago and I think that they sent it to you as well. I'm really
stoked about flying home with Elder Ballsteadt, Elder Ondracek, and Elder
Ivins. Those are 3 of my best friends and I think it's going to be just
the 4 of us. So I'm stoked for that. Haha yeah please make sure you check what terminal
I'm going to go to because it would be way anti climactic if it's me waiting
for you guys and all of you coming down the escalator hahaha. But no need
to look so far ahead into the future. I'm still going to be here for 2
and a half months!<o:p></o:p></div>

This week a lot happened. We did have 2 confirmations
this Sunday which was nice. Did I send you the pictures from the
baptism? We're planning our next baptism for June 24th. I'm way
excited about a guy named Z. He's really awesome and he's married
to a member. He's just young though I think he's like 25. But he's
getting more and more prepared for baptism each time we go there. At
first he was like "yeah maybe I'll come. I mostly want to join the church
for my daughter" (they just had a baby about a month ago) but now when we
see him he's really genuine and serious and his countenance is just changing.
For sure I'm excited about his baptism though. Aside from that we have
about 8 other investigators that are looking pretty good for the next 2
months. We'll see though. I'll tell you more about them in the
coming few weeks. <o:p></o:p></div>

I've started teaching piano lessons. There's one
sister in our ward who wants me to teach her and there's also a 12 year old
girl who I'm teaching because she has a piano and her parents are a little bit
less active so It's helping her. But I've had 3 lessons with her now and
I realized that I have no idea how to teach somebody to play the paino. I
have no idea if what I'm teaching her is way too advanced or way too easy or
what. Please help. I really need suggestions on how to effectively
teach piano to someone who knows nothing. Also she doesn't have a piano
book and they don't sell piano books anywhere for like 100 or 200 kilometers<o:p></o:p></div>

Yesterday LX turned 9. We go to the
X every Thursday for dinner and they always give us really big, really
nice meals. So yesterday I was expecting to have a nice meal for his
birthday or something. But turned out he had like a legit birthday party
and me and Elder Allred were the guests of honor. It was so nice.
We just gave a nice spiritual thought and then we ate like crazy. They
loaded our plates with so much meat I was so excited. All we had was meat
and pap. (pap is really really nice and I've just been eating it more and more
probably 2 or 3 times a week. Ask Daniel he'll tell you it's terrible,
but I really love it) We had so much meat more especially me. I
just ate and ate it was really a feast. But I love their family and
L little cousin A is so cute so I sent some pictures of her as
well.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
This morning we went to hike the biggest mountain in
Queenstown called Lukhanji mountain. It's pretty huge so we were pretty
stoked. On our way there we drove past the fence of the game reserve and
there was a Rhino like 15 feet away. You can't see it very well in the
picture but I was way excited to see a Rhino it's the first time in my whole
mission to see one. The horn was cut off though because you can sell a
Rhino horn for about 700 thousand USD. So they get poached about 2 or 3 a
day around the world and they're apparently one of the most endangered species
in the world. so the owners of the game reserve cut the horn on this one.
pretty cool. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Hiking Lukhanji was really cool and it took 3 hours to hike
it which is 1 and a half hours up and 1 and a half down. It was cool but
the pictures say it all. Don't judge them I just sent them all haha <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">

<div class="MsoNormal">
One of the hard things about serving here is that there's
nobody who knows how to cut white peoples hair. So for my last hair cut I
just went to a guy from Ghana. He did an ok job with the machine, but
when he used the scissors I realized he had no idea what he was doing. He
used them so rarely that they weren't even sharp enough to cut the hair and he
had to like hack at each piece of hair he wanted to cut hahaha. So he
ended up leaving too much hair on the back of my head and on the right side as
well. So I decided the brilliant and obvious thing to do was to cut my
own hair with some safety scissors. I cut the hair on the right side of
my head just beautifully and it looked really good which encouraged me to go
straight on to the back of my head without really looking in a mirror.
Unfortunately I didn't do so good of a job hahaha. I cut a massive bald
spot on the back of my head hahaha. The radius is like 2 or 3 inches and
I had to use lots of gel to like, fold some of the hair that's left over the
top of it to cover it up. But good thing black people don't actually know
what white hair is supposed to look like so they can't actually tell the
difference so I should be ok <o:p></o:p></div>

I'm
going to try to get out of the bottom 10 on that scale of worst picture takers
but I don't know that might be a bit difficult. I'll see what I can do
though haha I think that even if I send 3 a week I'm still losing ground on
everyone else and to get 3 pictures a week is steep for me. My companion
has taken almost 5000 pictures on his mission. I've take almost half of
500 hahaha<o:p></o:p></div>

have lots of baptisms. There's a member who married a guy named Z who has just been really progressing and doing better and better. We're
really excited for him because he's going to be a great help for the ward when
he gets baptized hopefully next month on the 24th. I really like
him. There's another lady that we just met last week that we're really
excited about. She just moved in so she's going to have no problem coming
to the church and getting baptized with her children. </div>

Apparently our bishop has big dreams. He's put in a
proposal to the area office which they are putting in to the first presidency
to build a school in Ezibeleni called Liahona primary school and then later to
build Liahona High School. apparently there's over 30 teachers that are
active members of the church that live in the area. Bishop is proposing
for the church to build and fund the school and he's going to manage it and be the
principal. It sounds like a super dope idea. I don't know what
headquarters is going to think but it would actually be pretty sweet if it
happened haha. <o:p></o:p></div>

Apparently the bishop also said that BYU wanted to buy land
in queenstown to build BYU-Africa and they offered the municipality a lot of
money and they said they would build an internet tower that would give

believe that but it sounds pretty dope hahaha<o:p></o:p></div>

I didn't know about the end up scouting but I just looked it up on LDS.org. I'm way excited about whatever the new program is though. Apparently it's going to affect faith in god, duty to god, and personal progress. I guess maybe they'll combine all of the youth programs into 1 super effective program that will just be super dope. This was a nice week. It was a bit discouraging though.
We had like a million dropped appointments. But we've found 2 father led
families that we're really super excited about. Right now Queenstown 2nd
ward, which is my ward, is right on the verge of splitting. It could
happen any day now, but we need just a few more priesthood holders. So
we're working super hard to find a few so the ward can split. Then
Queenstown as a whole is right on the verge of becoming it's own stake.
President Lebethoa says he thinks it will happen in the next 18 to 24
months. So we're looking hard for priesthood holders and families.
Too many elders in our zone are baptizing nobody but 13 year old girls.
It's a bit frustrating. Even we're baptizing 2 13 year old girls next
week. It doesn't really help the ward at all and they usually go less
active after a few years. But there's nothing wrong with baptizing
somebody who prepares for baptism and who wants to be baptized. I just
want to find priesthood holders who can really strengthen the ward. <o:p></o:p></div>

We met with Bishop Jabanga on Saturday. He was telling
us some really cool things. He thinks he's the first black person to get
the Melchizidek priesthood in the entire East London area. He got it in
1991 which blows my mind. Apartheid didn't really end until 1994 and it
was totally illegal for a black person to be in town or in the white
areas. So the bishop had to be snuck in to church every week by the
senior couples or else he'd be arrested. And he faced a lot of racism and
opposition but he said that the members of the church tolerated him which meant
a lot to him. But yeah he's a real pioneer in the stake. He was in
the first East London stake presidency. Now he's the bishop. He was
telling us more of what it was like to be a black member in the early
90s. The branch President told him that he had been taught as a child to
hate black people and so when they were starting to get black people in the
ward the branch president would always look at brother Jabanga while he was
speaking to make sure he didn't say anything offensive, and if he did say
something wrong bishop would just stare at him and he'd stop talking and go
over to brother Jabanga and ask what he said wrong and then he'd go back to the
pulpit and oppologize hahaha. But then that guy moved to Joburg and bishop
Jabanga became the branch president. So that was still in the mid 90s and
apparently there were a lot of white members who just let their temple
recommends expire and wouldn't go to church because a black man was the branch
president. But eventually all those white members moved and now there's
only 1 white guy in all of the queenstown area. Interesting stuff though.<o:p></o:p></div>

The past 2 weeks have been amazing, mostly with Elder
Palmer's mission tour, but also the work here is really picking up. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
In the township, there are no dogs. Instead there is a
closely related species of animal called Township-dogs. They are
completely wild and hostile. They are definitely not mans best
friend. They hate man. They usually live in peoples yard and attack
anyone that comes in. Even their owners live in constant suspicion of
them. As a result everyone in the township lives in constant fear of
being bit by one of the township-dogs. A lot of township-dogs even roam
free and wander the streets looking for old ladies to harass. The
township-dogs are very cowardly though so if you square up to them they run
away. Occasionally in the township you'll also find a nice house and inside
the gate will be a pitbull or a rotweiller. Those dogs will definitely
kill you if you go in the gate. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Why do I tell you this? Well last of last week I was
checking a less active guy at his flat at the back of someones house, and I saw
a dog as I walked to the back, and in my mind I saw a vivid picture of that dog
biting me, so I was just waiting for it to bite, but it didn't move as we
walked past so I thought it was fine. But then as we were knocking on the
door the dog silently snuck up on me and without making a noise at all it
jumped out of nowhere and bit my ankle hahaha. I was so surprised.
It hurt but not that bad and it didn't rip my pants hahaha. Luckily it
didn't bite very hard so it only barely broke the skin and it healed up just fine.
But it was cool to have the novelty of being bit by a dog :)<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Then Last week I was on exchange with Elder Reynolds from
Mthatha (the same Elder Reynolds who was my companion in King Williams Town)
and we decided to go tracting in the colored area. It was nice for a
second while we tracted with no success, because the coloreds are a lot less
receptive then the Xhosas. Then we came to a nice house in the nice part
of the colored township, and the door was open and the gate was unlocked so we
walked in to go knock the door and then all of the sudden I just hear barking
and I see a big black shape running out of nowhere, and I look behind me and
Elder Reynolds just yells Nooooo! and I see his back arch and I thought he was
a battle casualty and so I ran in the house and shut the gate door. Then
Elder Reynolds hobbled in after me and we shut the door on the dogs.
Apparently there were 3 Rotweillers and 1 of them bit Elder Reynolds in the leg
just behind the knee. Some dude came running out of the house in his
underwear because he just heard our shouting and he called off the dogs.
It was pretty nuts. Then we shared the Book of Mormon with that guy and
he told us he's a catholic so it's against his religion to talk to us which was
kind of weird, and then he took the Book of Mormon, gave us some antisceptic
cream and we left. We drove straight to the boarding where Elder Reynolds
changed into some shorts, by the way his pants were ripped by the dog, and we
looked at the damage. The dog really got a piece of him. He was
just bleeding profusely and his leg was just so gross. So we took him to
the doctor who bandaged him, put 1 stitch in his leg, and cleaned it up
nice. We were kind of worried about it because Elder Reynolds needed some
shots but he was driving all the way back to Mthatha the next day which is 3
hours away. But we were able to take him to the doctor the next day
before we left and they cleaned him up again and told him to get the shots in
Mthatha so it all ended up being fine, although Elder Reynolds is still
probably limping in Mthatha and I doubt his leg will heal quickly. Cool
story though. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Also the mission nurse told us to stay in the boarding so we
decided to get pizza delivered and they said to expect it after 30
minutes. I called them like an hour later asking about it and they just
kept putting me on hold. 2 and a half hours later I got a call from some
dude from the pizza place with the pizza hahaha. 2 and a half hour
delivery that's great!<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
It was nice to be with Elder Reynolds again for a couple of
days though. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Elder Palmer's mission tour was really great. I was
really amazed with how much love he was able to show in just a few hours.
He just kept hugging all of us and stuff it was kind of funny. And he
looked into our eyes! It was crazy. He would be teaching and
instead of looking around he'd just look straight into my eyes for like 30
straight seconds and then he'd switch to someone else. It was really
amazing. At the end before he left he hugged me for like, a long time,
and then he looked into my eyes for another long time, and then he said that I
must tell you that he said that he couldn't be more proud of me and that you
should know what a great missionary I am. He made me promise to tell
you. It really made me feel special. He even sat by me at lunch
instead of sitting with his wife, President and Sister Lebethoa, and the senior
couples. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
His training was pretty powerful as well, although I was
more inspired by who he was, then by what he said. But some things that
really stood out to me was his testimony of the Book of Mormon. He told
us that if we're scared of using the Book of Mormon or if we refer back to the
Bible with our investigators, we basically don't have a testimony because we
need to trust the Book of Mormon completely. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
At the MLC on Monday he shared a really sweet
experience. He said when he got called to be a general authority he was
in a meeting with all the other newly called general authority and Elder
Renlund came over to him and asked him how he was doing. He told Elder
Renlund "Quite frankly I feel really inadequate" Then Elder
Renlund said "6 months ago I was called to be the newest member of the
quorum of the 12. I felt like an imposter in that quorum." He
then said he had been talking about feeling inadequate as a member of the 12 with
Elder Cook, and he got a really clear impression from the spirit that said
"Remember where this call came from" Then he told Elder Palmer,
"You have no right to express feelings of inadequacy except to your
wife." Myself personally I'm not struggling with feelings of
inadequacy but I thought it was quite a touching story. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Another cool thing that happened is that we got a referral
from the President for a sister in our area. The referring members number
was there so we called him. His name was brother Moshani so I figured
he'd probably be a member in Cape Town in the President's ward. Well I
called him and I said hi this is Elder Heald and he said "Elder
Heald!!" he was way excited so I was like what the heck this guy knows me,
so I started thinking where I might know him from and I realized there was a
Brother Moshani who was my MTC teacher. So I asked him if he was from the
MTC and he said yeah and I said you remember me? And he said "Yeah
you lit up the place" hahaha. But he gave us a nice referral
for his sister that we are now teaching. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
A crazy thing was that an elder came in named Elder
Day. When he got into East London Air Port I gave him a hug and then I
said where are you from and he said Fruit Heights and I was like what the and
then I looked at him and realized that I recognized him. He went to Davis
High. I asked him if he recognized Adam Heald and he said kind of.
He's only 1 year younger than me. I was really quite surprised that he
wouldn't recognize my name if he went to Davis, but maybe he just didn't expect
to meet me on mission in South Africa. But he did know who I was a
bit. Cool though that there's another guy in our mission from
Davis. <o:p></o:p></div>

I forgot to tell you that this week our P Day is on Tuesday
because we had an MLC with Elder Palmer on Monday. It was really cool and
he shared some cool stuff. It's kind of weird doing MLC though because we
have to skype in and that takes away a lot of the benefit, but it was still
interesting and Elder Palmer said some really cool stuff. He mentioned
something Elder Renlund told him when he first became a general authority that
I thought was particularly powerful so I'll share that next week. I don't
really have time today because they changed our P Day to a public holiday and
all the internet shops are closed so I only have like 20 minutes on the Senior
Couples computer. I think that Elder Palmer is actually going to come and
inspect our boarding in a few minutes so that's good because we spent about 7
hours cleaning it hahaha. <o:p></o:p></div>

Even the Xhosa ladies here keep saying to me
"uyindoda" "you are a man" now since I'm 20 hahaha so
I can't play around so much anymore. I'm glad you liked the video. I'm glad you liked
that I realize that I've been probably the worst missionary in the world about
sending pictures home, but the truth is my camera has been dead for like 4
months because I didn't even come with a charger for it. I'm planning to
buy one soon though and repent. Maybe even today?<br />

I'm happy for the money that is being sent. thanks a
lot. It's a big shame though: About 3 months ago the president of
South Africa was Jacob Zuma who was really corrupt and destroying the economy
and the rand to the dollar was aweful. It was like 15 rand to the
dollar. But after being the president for 9 years and almost done with
his second term (a term in South Africa is 5 years and they can only serve for
2) almost randomly out of nowhere they kicked him out of office, and elected a
new guy Cyril Ramaphosa to be the new president. That sounds really
corrupt to me because there's about 3 major parties that all run for the election,
but the ANC just slyly put their guy in office right before the actual election
next year, so that they have a much better chance of winning the
election. it seems very corrupt to me but no problem. Anyway Cyril
Ramaphosa is a big multi millionaire businessman and he's not really corrupt,
so he's going to be a great president. The reason I told you all of that
is because now that he is the president the rand to the dollar has dropped like
crazy to be about 11 rand to the dollar and now I don't get nearly as much
money for every dollar you send me. And I think it's only going to drop
more. That's sad, but I'm just going to withdraw the rest of the money
and keep it for the rest of my mission. <o:p></o:p></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
Yeah this week was nice I was just in my area every day so
that was nice. also President Lebethoa is introducing a change to the
transfers, whereby we're going to be doing them by bus now so instead of
driving down to East London and meeting up with all the missionaries from the 2
zones there, we're just going to stay in Queenstown and the new missionaries
are going to come directly here. It's nice because we don't have to take
2 days out of our schedule to go to East London, but actually I'm pretty
dissappointed about it. Instead of seeing some of the other guys once
every 6 weeks, there's now literally no way to see any other missionaries
unless they get transferred to the Queenstown zone. I feel a lot more
isolated out here now. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
This week is transfers on Wednesday. When President
came to Queenstown for zone conference I told him I had a suggestion for him
about transfers. I asked if he could bring Elder Mabanga to this zone so
that I could have all 3 of my sons in my zone with me. Obviously I was
joking and it was a long shot anyway because Elder Mabanga is only finishing
his second transfer in Zwide so he's not supposed to leave there anyway. </div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
Well Elder Mabanga is coming to Queenstown zone so I'm way
surprised and happy about that. I'm laughing though, because I should
have had my 3 sons with me here, but Elder Reedy also got a surprise early
transfer to Cape Town to be the AP so I guess no family reunion for me.
Maybe when I see President again I'll ask him to bring Elder Reedy back. <o:p></o:p></div>

I'm stoked to have Elder Mabanga here though, He's been one
of my favorite companions. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Next week we're having a mission tour from Elder S Mark
Palmer of the seventy, who is our area president. I'm really stoked and
excited about that. Queenstown zone is the only zone that has it's own
zone conference. All the other zone's combine, so it should be pretty
cool to have a smaller training from Elder Palmer. It will feel more
individualized since there's only 12 of us. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Otherwise this week has been pretty basic. I'm staying
with Elder Allred. We're starting to really work things out and work well
together so I'm glad to have another transfer with him. <o:p></o:p></div>

weird. 20 seems really weird. I don't think that that can be

This week has been a pretty hectic week. I was only in
my actual area for about 15 hours. On Wednesday I was on an exchange with
Elder Khoza my last born son. It was pretty awesome to be with him for
the day. It's crazy he was telling me that he has been on mission for 8
months. That's crazy. But he was doing really well. He's a
great missionary and it's nice to see what kind of things he's learned and how
he's improved since I left him. We see each other a lot though so it
wasn't that crazy to see him. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
On Thursday we drove to the air port in East London because
I was flying to Cape Town for an exchange. I called the Davies(Senior
couple) and asked if we could come over which they said yeah so it was nice to
see them. Of course they prepared a really nice lunch for us with all
sorts of desert. Then we went to the airport and I flew to Cape
Town. Elder Huang arrived so it was nice to see him and then I
left. It was really weird to be alone on the plane. There was a
lady that sat next to me and I wanted to talk to her about the gospel, but she
pulled out a book. After about 5 minutes she put it down so she could
look at something else. Then I asked her if I could look at her
book. She said yeah so I looked at it for a minute. It was like
some inspirational book about creativity or something. When I gave her
her book back she asked me what I was reading. Haha that was nice.
I gave her the Book of Mormon and we talked for the entire rest of the flight
about it. It was pretty cool I told her all about Joseph Smith and the
restoration. I gave her the number for the elders in Cape Town and she
said she was really interested. It was a nice experience. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I had a really nice exchange in Cape Town. I was with
Elder Sibiya. I don't know if you know about him but he's a friend of
mine. We've served together for a lot of our missions. I was able
to meet up with a lot of cool people that side as well. I saw Daniel
Clark for only the second time in my whole mission. That was really
cool. We talked a lot and shared some stories about what's happening back
home. It was sweet. I saw Elder Dove at district meeting. That was
really nice. And some other of my mission friends and transfer buddies
and stuff. But yeah it was a really nice exchange and I learned a
lot. On Saturday morning we went to the air port and I flew back to East
London. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
From East London we had to drive to Mthatha instead of
Queenstown because we had to do some baptismal interviews for some of the
Elders that side. So we stayed the night with them and then on Sunday we
woke up an hour early and drove back to Queenstown for church. I was
pretty exhausted on Sunday from all of that travelling. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Plus I hardly ate in Cape Town. The members didn't
feed us and Elder Sibiya didn't have any food in his boarding except for like
50 or 60 apples so all I had was about 10 apples the whole time. It was
such a relief to get home because the members in Queenstown feed us like no
other area I've ever seen. On Sunday we had 3 DAs and the last one they
just gave us the dessert and put the food in a container for us. I was
just thinking "It's good to be back" hahaha<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">

really help especially here in Africa. I don't think there has been even
1 home teaching visit that has happened in this ward for probably a year.
This new system will be much better and motivate the members here to really
actually care about some of their fellow members. Home teaching just
seemed a little daunting for the members and now it's completely transformed

First
of all let me just say how much I loved conference. In fact I just can't
stop thinking about it. We didn't watch Sunday afternoon session yet but
the other 4 sessions were on another level. By far the most powerful
conference I have ever seen and that priesthood session was by far the most powerful
session I have ever seen. I'll share more details in my email to mom but
I agree with you on every point. I can't believe they're putting a temple
in Layton I just found out like 5 minutes ago that's pretty cool. I'm
laughing at your comment about that hahaha. Yeah I'm way excited about
that. <o:p></o:p></div>

say a lot about that in my letter to mom. </span><br />
<br />
To Mom:<br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
This week has been definitely the most spiritually uplifting
week of my whole mission. Basically just because of
conference. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I was really frustrated about conference because they didn't
even announce the times or know them until Friday afternoon which is just
ridiculous. Actually on Thursday they sent out an announcement that we
would watch the Saturday morning session at 10 o clock on Saturday. 2
wards. that means 2 complete bishoprics discussed it and thought that
that was a viable option. I don't know how they thought we were going to
watch the session here 8 hours before it actually happened in Salt Lake City,
but I guess the bishoprics just have a lot more faith in the priesthood than me
or something hahaha. But eventually we were able to sort it out and point
out the actual times when we were supposed to watch it and everything went for
the most part according to plan. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Friday was kind of funny. We basically had not much to
do because everyone was celebrating good Friday. Like it was
ridiculous. Nobody went to church on Sunday but Friday it was
packed. There were just so many activities at all the churches and the
taverns were packed because of that which I think is maybe ironic I don't
know? <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Saturday was cool. I was so excited for
conference. I actually memorized all the general authorities and general
officers of the church over the last couple months which probably sounds weird
but it honestly made conference more fun and interesting, because I recognized
all the speakers. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
We were basically trying to just pass the time to get to 6
so we could watch the session. And it didn't disappoint. It was so
amazing. The solemn assembly was just so powerful. When the first
presidency stood to sustain themselves I felt something really deep. It
was kind of funny though. President Eyring said "Members of the
first presidency please sustain" And that was when I found out that
we actually have about 7 members of the first presidency in our ward here in
Queenstown. Hahaha but anyway. The whole solemn assembly was a
sacred experience for me that I won't forget. When the whole church stood
to sustain the prophet the spirit overwhelmed me. I felt it in such a
different way. It overcame my whole body and I knew that President Nelson
has been called of God. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
We watched the Saturday Afternoon Session on Sunday morning
at 10. It was a pretty nice session. I was happy to hear my man
Carl B Cook called to the presidency. Also my friend Elijah's dad was
called to be a general authority so that's pretty cool. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I liked Elder Bednar's talk a lot. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The priesthood session was by far the most powerful session
of conference I have ever attended. It was really on another level.
I usually don't look forward to priesthood session but this one... yeah.
When President Nelson stood up to speak I got so excited. I started
taking notes for a second and then I just put my notes down and watched him
transfixed. He spoke for so short but the spirit was just coming over me
in waves. The announcement was big and I can testify it was a revelation
from God. The rest of the priesthood session was just a spiritual
high. All of the talks were great. It was really stacked. 2
apostles and then the first presidency after that. When it got to
President Nelson to speak again I was so excited. His talk did not
disappoint. It was so incredible. There's a few things I just can't
get out of my mind. He told the story of how he reactivated a less active
guy. One line he said has been playing over and over in my mind. He
said "Do you know who was called to be the first stake president? ...
yes" he just said yes and I just couldn't stop laughing. The
spirit was making me giddy or something like that. It was so cool.
Then at the end he commanded us all to stand one group at a time. My
heart was just pounding. I wanted to go out and just do battle with Satan
right there. I can't get his voice out of my head. "Deacons.
Teachers. Priests." So powerful.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
We watched the Sunday morning session live which was at 6 o
clock for us. It was another great talk but the highlight was of course,
by far, President Nelson's talk. I think that either that talk or his
talk in last conference is my favorite conference talk of all time. It
was clearly a talk and a topic that was given to him directly by the
Lord. It wasn't just a talk. It was the warning voice of a
prophet. He also specifically warned against the media and social
media. He is definitely a watchman on the tower. He said that
"The Savior will show forth some of his mightiest works between now and
when he comes again." He wasn't just talking. He was
prophesying. He said that if we don't have the guidance of the spirit and
revelation we will fall. I can testify to anyone on this planet that
Russell M Nelson is a prophet of God just as surely as anyone ever was.
The witness of the Spirit was overwhelming and I like Dad's words in his email
to me it was also draining. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I didn't get to watch Sunday afternoon session but I heard
about it today. A temple in Layton!! that's so crazy. And the
announcement about Home teaching and visiting teaching. That's obviously
a major change. I didn't even hear Elder Holland say this yet but I just
love these words so much: <span style="background: white; color: #4b4b4b; font-family: "Arial",sans-serif; font-size: 15.0pt;">To paraphrase Ralph Waldo
Emerson, the most memorable moments of life are those in which we feel the rush
of revelation. President Nelson, I don’t know how many more rushes we can
handle this weekend</span> <o:p></o:p></div>

conference? There's probably more that I have to say but I forgot and
I'll email next week. </span>radmomhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15182691731601660146noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4009910182556411475.post-11939157084054138382018-04-01T22:55:00.002-07:002018-04-01T22:55:46.711-07:00March 26 lettersTo Mom:<br />

They're feeding us like crazy. It's a pretty big ward with lots of really
strong long time members. I've mostly been following Elder Allred around
for a week and a half but it's been sweet. We're having lots of success

Yeah Queenstown is definitely the furthest zone from Cape
Town in the mission. There are elders in Mthatha which is where Nelson
Mandela was born and they are the farthest out. It's like a 3 or 4 hour
drive to get out there. <o:p></o:p></div>

My companion came in one transfer after me so he's almost
the same as me on mission. I've never had a companion older than
me. This is also the first time since I was with elder Greengrass that
I've been a junior companion and I have to say it's been a weird couple of
days. It's going to be tough to try and follow my companion this transfer
but I'm definitely sure that that's what the Lord wants me to learn. As
far as how I feel about leadership. I definitely don't really care about
it. I've kind of felt like my whole mission that leadership is something
I kind of already know so it's not something I need to learn as much, but now I am a zone leader and I feel like it's so that I
can learn to follow hahaha. But yeah it's not that big of a deal. 2
of my sons are in my zone Elder Reedy and Elder Khoza. And Elder Mabanga
might be transferred next transfer so I'm praying that he comes to Queenstown
zone that would be so awesome to have all 3 of my sons in my zone with me. <o:p></o:p></div>

going to be amazing to serve here. They don't have an automatic piano or
a pianist so I'm going to be playing the piano which I'm excited about.
Queenstown gets really cold and it even snows. It's been super cold since
I've been here which is such a nice thing for me. It got really really
hot in King sometimes especially at night because there's no air

Elder Khoza is in this zone so it's been really sweet to
chat with him a bit and catch up about some stuff. He told me some crazy
stuff from my old area. Apparently the daughter of the G family
that we baptized that side just started screaming randomly on Christmas day and
then out of nowhere she gave birth. She didn't even look pregnant at all
everyone was way shocked about that. I thought that was kind of
funny. But apparently everyone in Uitenhage is doing pretty well. <o:p></o:p></div>

There's a new greenie in our zone as well so I was able to
talk to him a bunch on the way to Queenstown from East London which took like 3
hours with tons of delays. But he's from Jamaica and he's a runner and
apparently he's going to be in the olympics. He's met Usaine Bolt like a
bunch of times and he says he thinks he's going to win the gold medal when he
gets done with mission. He's only 18. He's a really sweet guy I'm
planning to buddy up to him like crazy so that when he wins gold in a few years
I can have a claim to fame.<o:p></o:p></div>

have. <o:p></o:p></div>

First of all, I have to clear something up. I don't
want to give the mistaken idea that I'm completely changed in my morning
behaviors and that I'm perfect in that way. I am doing really good in the
mornings and I am always in a good mood when I wake up, but I've been that way
for a while and I know that I'm liable to revert back to my old ways of
struggling to wake up, although I won't revert to being in a bad mood in the
morning. But we did have a conversation about my strength in the morning
and me giving advice on that thing to my companion and I thought that was
really funny. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
As for my area. Things have been a bit frustrating
lately. December is a really hard month in South Africa and every
missionary will attest to that fact. Our area really took a hit in
December and it hasn't really recovered. Also our progressing
investigators who were supposed to be baptized we've done a bit of probing and
found out they don't understand or believe in the restoration at all. Now
they haven't been to church for 2 weeks and I'm really worried we'll lose
them. So there hasn't been a ton going on lately but that doesn't mean
the area is awful.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
We had a fireside about missionary work on Sunday and it
went really well. We're going to have a huge event in April at the chapel
that will hopefully get the area pumped full of investigators. Also the
bishop invited a couple to church and we've been teaching them. They're so
awesome and they're getting baptized for sure. They will really be a huge
help for the ward and we're really excited about them. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
As for me I got my transfer news and I'm leaving the area
and going to Queenstown. That's going to be sweet. That's pretty
much the last area of the mission that I haven't seen. My new companion
is Elder Alred. I know him he's really cool and he's probably one of the
most genuinely nice people I've ever met. He's from Mona Utah. It's
going to be a nice place to finish my mission so I'm really excited and I feel
fired up. I think this is going to be my best area of all.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">

<div class="MsoNormal">
I know I'm terrible about pictures. I don't have a
cord for my camera so it's hard for me to send pictures home. I think I
should buy one and then next week I'll try and send a lot of pictures
home. <o:p></o:p></div>

On a side note I went out Tuesday morning to do some
juggling (explanation from Mom - juggling a soccer ball, not clown-type juggling) in the courtyard. It's like the first time I've really juggled
on my whole mission. So I got 100 the first time. And then 50. and
then 200 and I was thinking to myself dang I've lost my touch! and then
on my fourth try I got 3389, so I thought maybe I didn't lose it after all
haha.<o:p></o:p></div>

Thanks for sending that early release form filled
out. I don't think there's going to be any problem with that at all,
President Lebethoa kind of intimated that it was just a matter of formality and
that if he was satisfied that I should go home for school than the missionary
department would have no problem with it. There's a lot of guys in my
transfer in the same boat as me. Probably like 10 of us or something so I
don't think anything weird is going to happen. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">

Nana and Grandad are gone now. They came, stayed, and
went, all without me ever actually seeing it. I'll never know if that was
even real hahaha. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Some few things happened this week that are worth telling
about. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
First of all I backed into another car. That's my
first incident on mission. My companion was out there backing me but I
didn't even look at him hahaha it was way dumb. But it wasn't a big
accident at all so I guess I'm probably not going to lose my driving privileges. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Secondly I was sick all week. I had a bad fever and it
was making my neck way stiff so I was rotating my whole body to look both ways
at stop signs and stuff. It was funny looking and my companion has been
making fun of me all week. I also had a big scare on Tuesday. I had
a bad pain near my groin and sister Davies said it might be a Hernea which if I
needed surgery I'd have to go home. I was way scared about that but it
didn't go away it only got worse so on Friday I went to the doctor. The
doctor looked at it and then he asked if I have any weird sores on my
leg. I was like yeah here's one and I showed him. He was like
"Oh that's easy it's Tick bite fever" Apparently I got a tick bite
and so it like targeted different glands on my leg and stuff and made them hurt
a ton and it gave me a way bad fever hahahaha. So that's like what I was
struggling with this week. But they gave me some pills and I ate them and
now it's mostly gone away. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I wanted to share with you a conversation I had with my
companion on Thursday morning or something like that. The gist of the
conversation was that he felt like he had chains around his body when he wakes
up in the morning that makes it so hard to wake up, and he's always way angry
in the morning and in a super bad mood. And then we were talking about
how I always bounce right out of bed in the morning and am always super sunny
and cheery and in a great mood. And I was giving him advice about waking
up in the morning and stuff hahahaha. I thought you would just laugh and laugh
if you heard that conversation. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">

<div class="MsoNormal">
From Mom: WHAT THE HECK!??? ADAM IS CHIPPER AND CHEERY WHEN HE FIRST WAKES UP? I DON'T EVEN KNOW MY SON ANYMORE!!! :)</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Anyway the area is not killing it right now. We got
let down by a ton of investigators on Sunday. We're really frustrated but
we're keeping up good courage and faith and stuff. But we've planned a
bunch of stuff with the ward that's going to get everyone stoked about doing
missionary work. That should be super awesome and get everyone hyped and
make everything go better. For now though we're just trying to do our
best. All of our investigators kind of got picked off by the Devil so
that's really hard. We're thinking of what we can do for a few of them to
help them recommit themselves but out of all of our efforts in the past 4
months nothing has panned out. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
No problem though<o:p></o:p></div>

<span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">I
was reading in Alma 36 the other day and I noticed that the last verse and the
first verse are the same, so I became a bit interested, and I looked through
the whole chapter and discovered that the whole chapter is a Chiasmus! I
am sure that that's probably pretty common knowledge but I felt kind of cool
for discovering that on my own. Almost like you discovering that in
D&C 1 but not quite as cool haha<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">There's
been this kind of mission legend about a witchcraft talk. I've heard all
kinds of stories about it, the guy got excommunicated, the guy didn't get
excommunicated he was a seventy, no he was just a guy, it's fake, it's
real. Anyway my companion actually has the talk so we listened to
it. It's pretty interesting. There's a few things that he says
there that I really like and that I think are really interesting. Anyway
I googled it and found some stuff that it was a mission legend in lots of
different missions and stuff. I wondered if you'd heard about it.
It's interesting but I prefer to learn the doctrines of the Lord and how I can
profit from them, then to learn what wicked things are happening in the
world. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

Yeah I think a bunch of us are going home on July 17.
From the group email it seems like probably 5 or 6 of us go home that same
day. <o:p></o:p></div>

Nana emailed me about that retirement. It seems like a
lot of stuff is happening with them that you guys could easily be just making
up. The fact of them living with you seems really weird, and I will never
see it with my own eyes. And by the time I get back they will be living
in England! Weird.<br />

We had a nice week. First of all we got dropped like
crazy. I don't know what happened. We probably got dropped like 6
or 7 times a day on average which just really slows things down. It was
pretty frustrating. But it's weird because at the same time we met 5 or 6
new people this week that are way exciting and are definitely going to get
baptized. In the space of 1 week this area went from being a bit slow and
frustrating, to just overflowing with exciting prospects. Genuinely of
the people we met last week I think we'll have 5 or 10 baptisms. Super
amazing. We met 2 awesome father led families. 1 was a referral
from the bishop. I'm just so excited about them both. I was hoping
to leave King Williams Town but suddenly I'm hoping to stay! I've also
had a sweet idea for a big event that I want to plan and I've had this idea
since I first went to Uitenhage so a long time. Well I told the bishop
about it and he liked it a lot, so I presented it to the ward counsel yesterday
and everyone was pretty excited about it. We're planning the event for
March so it should be sweet. Basically we're planning to invite all the
people in all of King to come to the chapel and we're going to preach the
restoration to them from the pulpit. Exciting stuff<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Some other funny things happened. Me and Elder
Steffensen played with some kids 8 on 8 in the street the other day.
There was a lot of kids so we went on different teams. Those kids thought
we were way good so they started calling me Messi, and Elder Steffensen
Ronaldo. It was really funny. Every time I got the ball they'd be
like "Pass it Messi!" And if I scored a goal they'd all freak
out and just yell "Messi! Messi! Messi!" hahaha. when I left
they were like "Bye Messi, you're always welcome here!" Haha I
went back the next day on exchange with Elder Shaw and they all crowded the car
and started freaking out yelling in Xhosa and chanting "Messi Messi
Messi!" hahahaha funny</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Another thing that happened that was really nuts.
First of all we live in a townhouse, so our house is connected to our 2 next
door neighbors. Anyway while we were in the area on Wednesday our next
door neighbors house burned down. We didn't even notice until the next
day when we were leaving for the area. It was pretty nuts. On one
side of the wall the house is totally burnt and destroyed and on the other side
of the wall is our bedroom. None of our neighbors knew our phone number
so they couldn't even call us hahaha. The house was just about to burn
down and nobody could get ahold of us. We would have come home from the
area and there was just no house there and we wouldn't have even known.
Crazy story. Moral of the story. Get to know your neighbors.
But I don't think anybody was hurt in the fire so that's good<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
On Saturday we went to a birthday party for a girl named
Y turning 2. It was super hilarious. her parents, brother and
sister m prepared gift bags for all the kids in the apartment complex
where they're staying and they invited them over. So they were passing
out the bags to all the kids and all the kids started freaking out and fighting
over who got which bag and stuff, doing what bratty 5 or 6 year old kids do
hahaha. But then Y took one of the gift bags and walked straight over
to the most obnoxious kid and with a big smile on her face she took the bag and
just clocked him straight in the face. It was so funny we were laughing
so hard. This little girl! As if she was saying "Hey! it's my
birthday be grateful!" Hahaha the kid was like holding his face but
it was pretty funny. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Sunday it rained so a lot of our investigators let us
down. We still had 14 but we could have had so many more. We were
disappointed but a lot of really good things happened this week that we were
excited about. <o:p></o:p></div>
